Aircraft presented well and crew were very friendly. Took off at scheduled time and landed similarly. Even it was only an hour flight light refreshments were served along with drinks.

Traveling first class on jal but they don’t connect to pre-tsa system so am waiting 30 minutes in line. Somehow they don’t have a “contract” so don’t fly them until they do!

Excellent outbound onboard service from Purser Horiuchi. Hubby went to sleep right of Narita and when he woke 90 minutes to landing in Honolulu, Horiuchi was already waiting to serve him is kaiseki meal!
Inbound, we were delighted with Masako our Chief Cabin Attendant /Senior Sommelier who looked after us very well.
Sky Suite 3 beds are definitely an improvement from the Sky Suite 2. We noticed that window seats have much larger footwells than the middle couple seats. Avoid the middle seats if you are tall.
Cons – again, cabin can be on the warmer side, bathrooms weren't as impeccable as the last time we flew. Pillows can be more substantial and a mattress pad would be absolutely appreciated.

I ended up on the flight as part of a trip to Hong Kong, Korea and Japan. This was the last long haul leg and I usually use this leg to adjust back my body clock so good sleep is essential. To be fair I make multiple long haul flights a year in either business or first class and with over 25 years of doing this I have seen all the seats and all the levels of service across many airlines so maybe I am just getting picky. But - this is an old configuration that few still use and on pretty much my favorite aircraft (Dreamliner) this was very surprising. These days business is pretty much 4 across in a ‘pod’ style arrangement with large screen, full lay flat and usually a mattress pad etc. However this flight was 6 across - so you are sitting right next to your fellow flyer, no privacy screen and seats that should have been banned years ago. These are the seats that recline to about 30 degrees, have the hump in the middle and the flip out footrest to catch the continual slide that the angle causes. They are by far the most uncomfortable seats ever put in business class and the inventor should be made to sit in one for 10 painful hours every day and then apologize to all flyers who ever used one. Multiple complaints and grumbling from passengers and it amazes me the Japan Air considers this acceptable. So I did not sleep, ended up with back ache and once off the bed of torture swore I will never fly this route with this airline again. These seats were so old fashioned they even had the screen that comes out of the arm rest and sits at a crooked angle. Food was mediocre, service excellent. Stay well away - this is just cheap old fashioned seating and cram as many passengers in travel that most abandoned 10 years ago.
