“Nice basic flight”
Review of Iberia

Reviewed 26 September 2017

We had only hand luggage so no idea about the check in process.
Very bad point was that even though we had no luggage and we boarded as 1 of the first people, we had to check in our trolley at the gate! I really hate that!!!
Flight was on time and was very nice.
Although it was very hot on the plane when we boarded, temps were okay during the flight.
All personnel speaks Spanish, so that was a little negative point, but we could manage.
I'm always very disappointed when you can't even get a free water!
Landing was perfect and getting of the plane went fine.

The whole Iberia experience is great, from check in to de-boarding. The crew are very welcoming and the cabin was immaculate. The in flight entertainment was good, however the IFE sensitivity did get a bit annoying at times, and the WiFi is quite expensive for what it is. Legroom was more than generous and the seat was comfy.

We had booked with British Airways to fly to Madrid. Our online check in with BA was fine. However, the flight was a codeshare with Iberia, and it was them operating the flight. Boarding was a farce. The announcements for priority boarding were unintelligible, but we'd chosen an exit row, so weren't too bothered, as we knew we didn't have to fight our way too far down the plane. Even on the exit row, the seat pitch was terrible. Seats were hard, and just about manageable for the length of the flight. The cabin crew did little, if any, monitoring of what people were shoving in the overhead lockers. And they were allowing passengers to move the baggage of others whilst they were doing this. It took an age for everyone to get seated, with it resembling a free for all.
Disembarking was just as bad, if not worse.
I appreciate that the first language of the airline is Spanish, so I understand that the safety instructions are given in Spanish initially. Luckily, we are frequent flyers, so it's not important to us that we listen. However, if you were a new or irregular traveller, you wouldn't have understood a word of the English instructions. Gabbled at speed, in a strong accent. As this was a BA booked flight, leaving from a British airport, it should have been much much clearer.
Our return flight wasn't as bad. Order of boarding was much clearer, with check in order having been printed onto the boarding cards, and numbered rows at the gate. Still terrible seat pitch, and the fiasco of the free for all in the aisle and overhead lockers.
We'll never knowingly fly with Iberia again. Ever.
Paying BA prices for a budget airline experience, is not acceptable. However, I believe that Iberia don't class themselves as 'budget'. Well they should. I've spoken to BA today, and was told that they received numerous similar complaints.

Compared with other airline business Class services such as Air France or Qatar Airlines, I should say that Iberia is no more than average. I find the entertainment poor and the meals selection should improve. However they offer very good choices of wines and liquors.
The layout of the seat with its control panel, screen, and space to store personal effects is quite uncomfortable and difficult to handle.
Takeoff and landings were perfect on time

A great experience. Business class seats were very comfortable, and the lie flat feature made sleeping easy.
The service was impeccable and the crew very friendly.
