We had booked some good value seats on return flights from London Stansted to Bangkok with a change at Cologne-Bonn. The short flight from London to Germany was fine and standard for a European short flight.
The long distance flight was not as enjoyable. We presumed - like every other long distance flight we've been on - that movies and food would be included in the ticket price. It wasn't. We were surprised when the food was served and we were left out. We also didn't have access to the entertainment package on board - this was an extra ten euros per person. Not ideal for a 12 hour flight. Maybe our mistake for not seeing this at booking so we paid for some food, although we weren't allowed a hot meal, just one option of a sandwich. However this took a while as despite pressing the call button many times no-one came to take our order. In fact, we tried to get the attention of different attendants but they all seemed too busy helping those in first class or in the premium section. It was half an hour between deciding to pay for food and ordering it. We were also surprised to see that there wasn't any comfort for passengers - no blankets or pillows. Although there was the option to buy a blanket for six euros...
Wanting to avoid this again, we went online in Asia before our return flights and paid extra to specify our seats, which the website said included a meal and the entertainment package. This wasn't true. Although we were served a meal we did not have the entertainment package as promised. We raised this an air hostess and pointed out that we had paid online specifically for this but she just unhelpfully shrugged and said it had to be paid for on the flight. Most of the attendants on the flight were rude and helpful - at one point I tried to enter the toilet and one hostess put her hand in the way to block me, said 'stop' and then went in herself without any explanation or apology.
We will be actively avoiding flying with them again.
