“Bad service, but good price”

Prices is quite low and to be honest it's quite a big benefit. But service is awful. Crew members scream to each other and pass meals over the heads of passengers even when some of them try to sleep. I see a couple of times they dropped a glasses full of water, spilling it onto passengers. Their English is quite poor even on international flights. My wife had a seat near the window with extra space and the seat next to her was empty. But I was given a place seven rows further. Instead of just changing seat I tried to ask flight attendant first. She said nobody should seat here, but could not explain why. When I sat anyway she called some other crew member and he sat there instead of me, saying that it was his seat. Just put a cheap show.

I start from the beginning. The web is difficult to navigate and the app is all in Chinese. Impossible to find the English version
Online check in is a bit complicated. Not simple at all. Very unfortunate
The staff at check in very polite and friendly.
Transit in Shanghai ok, the airport S1 not very inspiring. Wanted to use the VIP lounge and pay which is close to gate G119 and they did not take cards. A woman in front of me had same problem. Only cash or pay union
Now you will think they had an ATM machine? No the nearest is in T1 a 20 min ride on the train. Ridiculous.
The lady at the lounge did not speak English so we use Google translate
Also they don't have upgrade last minute offers or bidding upgrade a mistake in my view. I wanted to move to businesses .
So stayed in economy seat 70J which is an aisle and only 2 seats so I recommend this.
If you want window and just 2 seats try 71 or 72L
Food was ok but could have been better.
Entertainment ok but not great. Magazine mostly in Chinese with a few English articles
Great value . Ticket was a bargain

By far the worst airline we flew with. You think working on an airline they would speak at least another language except chinese. English is not my first language either but to provide and international service i find it completely rude that they refuse to offer help because they don't speak english.
This happened at the counter just before boarding. My husband and i were on our honeymoon and despite early check in they put us separately. We did not want to make a fuss but the response back was rude and unfriendly.
The seats in the plane are horrible small for long flights. I am 1.70 and size small but both sides touched my Neigbours. The chairs had harfky any cushions in the seats. My table was loose when fully opened. There were some tall man on the plane and i felt sorry for them as everyone could notice their discomfort. They absolutely stuff the planes full with people and the the staff working on the airline was sneezing, red nose and coughing handing over drinks and meals. I actually felt sorry for the conditions they had to work in. Food was a 6. Movie choice was poor and the headsets on both out flights were not strong enough to hear anything. Also there is no English subtitles.

Regardless of all the poor reviews, we had a good experience. Check in and boarding was quick and easy at both ends, and despite a delay at Gatwick, we made our connecting flight. The plane was clean and the on board staff were professional and courteous. The only reason for not leaving a five star review is that they didn’t cater for vegetarians and they are difficult to make contact with. Overall, great value for money.

Cheap tickets! They are priced very competitively for a variety of routes.

Pros: Extremely competitive price while you get full-service. Planes are reasonably new and cabin crews are courteous and caring. English is spoken. Handled a situation of an entitled white trash passenger and her Chinese spouse trying to occupy a whole overhead bin professionally and did not delay departure despite the scene. Flights are largely on time and if not the block time is significantly longer, helping to offset the delay. Transiting at PVG is straightforward too.

Cons: LONG queue at Changi: takes us an hour or so which never really happened before. Entertainment is poor. F&B onboard is OK for Asians but rather limited. Self-service with the website not very straightforward.
