We flew from LAX to Vienna and 4 days later to CAI, all went smooth, left LA on time, 90 min departure to CAI. Otherwise reasonably priced flight, clean new planes and typical economy seats and average service onboard. Two days prior to departure back to LAX, I was told by a friend that Austrian cancelled a large number of flights to and from Cairo, and I need to email and ask to be put ont a different airline. I never received any alerts or any communication from Austrian to inform me of the changes. I had to travel on Lufthansa, got to work 2 days later after spending one night in FRA. In an email, Austrian committed to pay for meals and hotel in Frankfurt in email to me. I submitted the receipts by email and uploaded them on their web site. No response for 4 weeks later.
In the future I will avoid Austrian because of their poor customer service. You should too :(
