“Always a good flight”
Review of Air New Zealand

Reviewed 24 October 2018

We fly with Air New Zealand a few times a year and always find them good to fly with. Check in staff are always helpful, the flight is always good. We usually book The Works and find the food to be fine. We also try to book an exit row to get extra legroom. Our luggage always arrives in good condition and they’re usually on time.

We chose them because we could fly out from Adelaide. The flight attendants were very friendly and helpful. The food was good, and we enjoyed the in-flight entertainment.

We normally fly to New Zealand with stopovers for a few days each way, but this time chose to fly continuously, via Los Angeles, using the Skycouch to enable us to lie down and get some sleep.
Basically, you take a third seat in addition to your two seats, and the three can then be transformed into a bed by lifting up sections which would normally be your footwell, so that the whole space is a bed. You are provided with a thin mattress and pillows as well as the usual blankets.
First we both laid down together. It is comfortable enough, but very tight, and we found it impossible to turn over with the seat belts on. So that didn’t work for us.
However it was very easy for one person to lie down, and the other to recline with a half raised footrest, and change over every few hours. That worked well for us.
Is it worth the cost? Yes, it was for us. It cost about the same as the normal flights with stopovers, but gave us more time in New Zealand. Whether it would be worth it to others depends on their priorities.

Flew on a Boeing 777-200,2 -4 -2 configuration, best seats are on the sides of the cabin which allows for easier access when leaving your seat. Leather seating is extremely comfortable with leg room to die for. Air NZs PE would rate right up there and would be a very acceptable cabin to fly in on a long haul, although a lie down bed for an overnight flight would still beat it.
Food was above average from a Premium Economy menu, with 3 selections for the main. I do enjoy my wine and their selection was very good.
As usual the cabin service was great with very attentive staff.
A most enjoyable flight which I would rate as a 9/10
