I am American Airlines executive platinum member, so I do my fare share of traveling as I own a technology services business in US. Decided to take a flight from Toronto to Delhi on Jan 18th 2025. Thinking that it’s been a while since reputed company like Tata took over. How bad it can be? may be people leaving bad reviews are not fair or it’s about before Tara take over.

Well I had rude awakening waiting for me. First, flight got delayed two times, one a week before departure and second on day of departure. It messed up my connection in Delhi and added few additional hours to my long trip. From flight deck reason given was republic day events in Delhi, which is suppose to be on Jan 26 and week after my flight, go figure!!!

At the airport while checking in, I found out that seat I selected a weeks ago is not available. They put me in other seat not matching my selection. In the plane, crew told me that my originally selected seat will be used by crew for taking rest. Wow! I heard other people complaining of moved to middle seat when their selection was aisle or widow, poor soles.

let’s see the quality now. See the pictures below, it seems like no maintenance has been done since the plane was put in service, broken things all over, wear and tair everywhere you look. Ancient entertainment system, non functioning items.

No storage, things on floor everywhere. List goes on and on, can’t find any positive, forget about positive, not even a normal thing expected in business class.

Is this really owned by Tata? At least good that Ratan ji is not alive to see it.

I am worried about my return flight as perhaps it will be same horrible aircraft.

My advice, don't look at price or route convenience, not worth it.

Perhaps the worst communication ever received from cabin crew. The plane had mechanical issues from the start, we waited 4hours without communication until we forceful disembarked. No communication about the rescheduled flight either. Thoroughly disappointing.

Air India’s customer service is appalling. After booking a flight, I noticed an error in the travel date and contacted them within 10 minutes to rectify it. Despite their responsibility to assist passengers who report mistakes promptly, they dragged the issue on for weeks, offering no resolution and demanding an unjust fee of $160 USD to correct a genuine error. Their lack of accountability, delayed responses, and disregard for passenger rights make for an extremely frustrating experience. I would not recommend Air India to anyone expecting basic customer service or fair treatment.

This flight was actually in Premium Economy but Tripadvisor does not seen to have a corresponding classification which is a bit surprising given the considerable growth in Premium Economy as a travel option.
Check in at Heathrow was very smooth as was boarding at the gate,
This flight was on a new A350 which is a very nice aircraft. The seats are very comfortable with reasonable leg room for taller people and a good level of recline.
The cabin crew were great, very courteous and helpful.
The food was great, much better than average as compared to other airlines.
The flight departed more or less on time and arrived a little early in Delhi.
I have travelled for many years and have never experienced a bad flight with Air India but since the Tata take-over improvements in all areas are noticeable and seem to be on track for Air India to compete head on with other leading airlines.

Had 4 flights whit air India this month.

The bad.
The planes was in bad shape, 100% of my flights entertainment system did not work, seat broke on 2 flights, front seat pocket broken on 50% of my flights.
Last flight toilet broken, crew knew bud didn't put a sign on, so you know before using.

100% of my flights delayed 45min or more.

So maney birds inside and outside in new Delhi airport, birds in an airport, is not a good thing, neither inside or outside the airport.

2 of my flights was a 787, whits can be max 11-12 years old, so a relatively new plane, but just sooooo badly maintained, seems like noone care.

I do know, that a broken interior and missing paint on the plane, doesn't have anything to do whit flight safety, but it just make you think how critical safety are handled.

The good.
We made it safely and I found one friendly steward on one of the flights.
