Review of Aer Lingus

Reviewed 15 December 2017

I just love flying with Aerlingus, they are my preferred choice. I have flown with them twice in the last week. Their staff are so friendly and helpful and are not trying to sell you something at every available opportunity - keep up the good work

First off, this is the first transatlantic flight I have flown where they make you pay for beer and wine even in economy class. There was one beverage cart service (soda, juice, beer, wine, etc.) before the meal, that's it. They did offer tea and coffee immediately after the meal and snack, but seemed inconvenienced but the MANY people just wanting water.

Found a great leisure fare to spend a long weekend in Munich and then back to Dublin for a stopover on the return.

For what I paid - Aer Lingus hit the spot.

Across the Pond:
What You Get: half hour drink & snack service after take off, dinner about 75 minutes into flight which is usually a chicken or beef selection with a roll, small salad, and a little dessert, then they leave you alone and may come around with water service here and there, about 45 minutes before landing you get a little snack. Into Dublin it was a muffin & juice, into JFK it was a half wrap and a tea. On the DUB to JFK portion they served a half wrap & dessert bar, which was nice, problem is, the service was 45 minutes out and so right after handing it to you, they're taking it out of your hand demanding to throw it away. All seats have IFE screen - selection is pretty good, enough to get you across the pond. Some A330's have the USB ports at the seat, some don't.

What You Don't Get: hot towel service, free liquor. you have to pay.

What You Should Get: I did the buy in advance meal across the Atlantic both ways. i had the salmon and the steak. well worth the $25, and well done, even for an airline coach meal, plus it includes a free wine.

Intra Europe:
What You Get: you get a seat assignment and checked bag, after that, the service is all a la carte. you pay for everything. water included. the food isnt that bad, but you might want to bring your own snacks and drinks if this is a problem for you.

Advice to All: i enjoyed Aer Lingus and would travel with them again. Dublin Airport is fairly easy and convenient, the pre-clearance for U.S. customs is nice, but be aware, once you get past this, the food/meal options while you wait for your flight really suck, and the area can get really crowded as Aer Lingus keeps expanding its flight schedule to the U.S. the Dublin stop over is nice and it can break up a trip across the pond if you're not savvy at sitting in coach seats for a while. coach seats aren't killers, but when the people in front of you recline, it does cut off the space, a lot.
