Great flight, friendly service and so much better than flying from Sydney! Thanks Virgin Australia.

These flights are trialling between Nov 18-Feb 19 and are a brilliant option for travellers living in Newcastle, the Hunter and beyond. Saves so much time not having to get to & from Sydney.

I flew to Melbourne with Virgin and returned to Maroochydore with Jetstar. The decision was based primarily on flight times and prices. The Virgin Boeing 737's interior has a better feel than Jetstar's Airbus 320. The seat pitch seems better and the seat upholstery is thicker. What let the Virgin service down was the promise of included refreshments with the disappointment of then being served a small and tasteless energy bar accompanied by a paper napkin. I prefer the more honest Jetstar approach, where you definitely know you have to buy the food.

Apparently in Virgin's favour was the boarding process where the gate number appeared on the ticket, in contrast to Jetstar where the gate number was secret until a short time before boarding. This could, however, be an airport rather than airline issue.

We nearly always travel with Virgin because we have linked our cards to get the frequent flyer points but as the years go by the points required is getting higher and higher, eg. Hong Kong return used to be 62000 points return now 200000 to 300000. The staff are great the food is excellent and the entertainment is pretty good.

We recently flew return from Brisbane to NZ via direct flights. This was our first flights with Virgin and were very disappointed with the entertainment policy on this flight with no built-in screens for the flights. We didn't have any headphones to listen to the virgin entertainment app therefore made the flights very long.

Staff are professional happy and helpful. Flight was on time. Easy to board and in house entertainment was great. Its a pleasure to travel and experience such great service all done with a smile.
