Hi,
my hubby and i are visiting jervis bay for 2 days (Jan1-Jan3), driving from Sydney. We want to stay at a self-contained cottage, preferably oceanfront or close to the beach. Most places are totally booked or require a longer stay, does anyone have any ideas? We don't have to stay at Hyams beach, it would be nice to be near a beach but definitely doesn't have to be that one.

i think you are on 'mission impossible'. those dates are right in the middle of our busiest holiday period (xmas/summer) and apart minimum nights booking policies, the jervis bay area is extremely popular and is booked out from year to year at that time.
As Lien says, your chances of finding ANYTHING in the first week of January are very very slim. if you see something, book it!
I just did a check of Paperbark Camp where I stayed a couple of weeks ago and they look to still have a vacancy. It's not beachfront, but they are on a nice stretch of creek and it's only a few minutes to drive to Huskison and then another 10-15 mins to Hyams Beach. Being a regular visitor to this wonderful part of the world I couldn't agree more with the other comments about January being a busy time.

Another suggestion it to stay outside of Hyams Beach, try Sanctuary Point, Vincentia you may be luckier..
