New Greek tourist tax?

Just book a week in tsilivi in Sept staying at mavrias village and done some research and found out Greek government are now charging tourist tax to be payable on arrival at your accommodation.

Anyone got any ideas what this is/how much this is? Is it per room booked or is it per person? Don't want to be caught short when we arrive and have less spending money if that makes sense?

Thanks

It’s per room or apartment, depends on the rating of the accommodation.

Maximum (for a 5* hotel) is €4 a night. So, whatever you need to pay will be €28 or lower, may be as low as €3.50 :)

Where are you staying?

Apartments

€0.50 per room per night

Hotels

1-2 star €0.50 per room per night

3 star €1.50 per room per night

4star €3.00 per room per night

5 star €4.00 per room per night

This is according to Olympic

Looks like they’re all apartments or studios, so should be 50 cents a night, I don’t think it will change your budget much :)

Brilliant thanks. No that's not even worth being concerned about. Thanks for your help.

depends on star rating, 1 or 2 star is 5cents a night, 3 stat is 1.50, 4 star is 3 euros per room per night. Massive rip off

Peter, if you think the Greek tax is a rip off you'd better avoid the Balearics then where 4 star superior is 4 euros PER PERSON per night.

If someone can afford 4* or 5* accommodation the tax is peanuts. And as it is per room, not per person then for a couple in 4* are they really going to feel the pinch at €10.50 each per week? You see people paying more than that for drinks in plastic cups on the flights to Greece!

If you compare with any other European country, the Greek tourist tax is peanuts. People complaining about 10-20 Euro tourist tax but paying 1000's of Euros to go for 1-2 weeks there. How pathetic.

It's just because it's new & there's been lots of negative, incorrect publicity about it. But, then again, some people aren't happy unless they've got something to have a moan about.
