Can you walk from Frigate Bay to South Friars?

Also, is there anything around the cruise ship terminal in way of beaches, shopping and restaurants other than "port area" things? We want to be out of the port area but don't know if there is anything worth walking to if we decide we don't want to go to a beach.

1. Re: Walking?

It is a very difficult 2.5 mile walk from Frigate Bay to South Friars as you have to trek over a very high hill. There are no sidewalks and at one point you'd have to pass through a tunnel designed only for vehicles. Other then the tunnel there are no shaded areas to shield you from the hot sun & high humidity. One way travel time walking is about 50 to 60 minutes.

The Port Zante Cruise ship complex has lots of shops and restaurants. Outside the complex is the entire town of Basseterre with all types of shops, restaurants, etc. There are no "swimmable beaches anywhere within walking distance of the cruise ship dock. You can also spend the day at Palm Court Gardens (http://www.palmscourtgardens.com0 which is located on the north side of Basseterre, about a 10 minute walk from the cruise ship complex.
