The beaches, the weather, the food, the people, the laid back atmosphere, the fantastic food & drink prices!! You'll hate it!! My favourite place in the whole wide world 😍
The scenery is spectacular. The tavernas serving food are excellent, cooking with fresh produce. There are none of the chain fast food outlets and the people are superb. Lovely beaches, what more could you ask for.Edited: 01 September 2017, 03:55
It's an excellent base to explore the beautiful Mani.
Plus two other villages fairly close by for a change of scenery.
You make your own entertainment - conversation over an amazing meal or drink.
No tribute acts / kareoke / bingo / etc
The excellent food / drink and prices already mentions.
Our kind of place.
Photos don't always show atmosphere and the atmosphere round Stoupa is wonderful. There are lovely beaches, 20 or so quality tavernas, just enough beautifully situated bars and the right balance of facilities and quality places to stay. Not convinced? You could go up to several traditional mountain villages untouched by tourism?A stunning walk on the coastal path to the nearby fishing village "Ag Nik"? A short drive or bus ride to pretty Kardemili, once the port for ancient Sparta? Get a car and explore the Mani, mainland Europe's southern tip, calling at the old stone town of Areopoli or the unique caves at Diros,or cut across to Gythio and gorgeous Skoutari? Oh and then there's the sunsets - plenty of photos of them, to be enjoyed with a cold pre-dinner drink, whilst a handful of locals take an early evening swim. Now I'll stop at this point, because Stoupa is in danger of no longer being a hidden treat!
As well as all of the above mentioned it's a nice compact place where nothing is more than a leisurely stroll,so very little effort is required if you want a lazy time.
What are you missing? Go there & find out!
There's nothing special about Stoupa, except that a whole lot of British people have fallen head over heals in love with it. There's also nothing wrong with Stoupa, it's just one of the many, many Greek villages that offer a Greek holiday in Greek surroundings with great Greek food and great Greek people. And yes, Mani is wonderful, like so many other Greek areas.
Don't go. You won't like it
We have booked for next year (our 7th year running) we just really dislike having to go back to the place year after year. And if you believe that you will believe anything.
It's a busy resort with a nice beach that you can sometimes see in between all the sunbeds and unbrellas. 20 years ago it was great but now it's been ruined. There are many quieter places in Lakonia that are like Stoupa used to be. Fortunately they are two hours from Kalamata airport which is further than most package holidaymakers want to go after their flights.
