Mine and my wife's fave is The Inn Place in the old town next door to Bourbon Street. When we had a week there in June we were in there most nights. Very good beer, all the sport you can watch and cheap! Another good boozer is The Purple Turtle up Cardiac Hill in the old town. They also do very nice food in there and its only 1 euro 50 for a pint of San Miguel in a frosted glass! We are flying out for 2 weeks tomorrow and can't wait to get back to both these places and a few more! ;)

I went into friends and was delighted when the owner put a dvd of Peter Kay on the box. I had seen it before but hey! proper entertainment. I also had a lunch bite to eat there and enjoyed both the food and the conversation with the lass who served us, made us feel like regulars, will def be going back to Friends when we go back in Feb.

P.s

Not knowing PDC very well could you put a brief where to find them piece with your recommendations please.

Another vote for the Purple Turtle. We love the place, great atmosphere, good bar food at reasonable prices and at €1.50 a large beer you can't beat it. We stayed in the New Town but found ourselves trekking here almost every night after dinner.

Others we like in no particular order are Spinakkers, Drop Inn, Route 66, Friends.

We will be back on 25th Feb staying in the Elena Apartments and can't wait!!!

We've a couple of favourites in PDC after 6/7 trips in recent years.

For banter and live music you can't beat Nellys Irish bar in the old town - Gerry the owner always makes us feel welcome each time we visit and for a small bar, it is v popular with the ex-pat community living in the area. Its just below the Biosphera shopping centre in a little square off the street with live music most nights.

More of the same with the Blarney Stone in La Hoya centre further down that street and for a cold drink and a chat under the blue skies call to the Bus Stop across from the Biosphera .. can't wait to head out to see all our friends in a fortnight!

Brian Boras is a good irish bar with live music, happy hour til 10pm ( bogof ), also like routa 66 to people watch. To end the night try The American Indian Bar with the rock group Question.

Scotch Corner in the Old town is great for people watching, really comfy seats and they also have live entertainment. There's another bar we frequented a lot on our last visit but not sure of the name. It's in the New town, past the Casino, directly facing a children's play centre or something. It's one of those play things with crazy golf and a place were kids jump in with loads of different colored plastic balls! It has a small square area behind it with an English chip shop and a few other pubs. Again this bar has lovely comfy seats and is great for people watching as it's directly on the front. We also visited the wee square behind it and had a few drinks in one, barmaid was extremely pleasant so we'll def visit there again next month.

Like a previous reviewer, we used to visit a pub just beside theBiosphera shopping centre, were you could bogof, although always get the name mixed up as it's either Brendan Behans or Brian Boru. The owner used to let us buy drinks during the happy hour and he would have kept them in fridge for us even when price had gone back to normal! Think it's changed hands since then because didn't see same guy on last visit and he was owner. Had some great nights in here till about 2am! Maybe later but we were child free then!

Hope this helps
