Yosemite, staying in Oakhurst (with a baby and toddler)

We are staying in Okahurst and will have 5 full days to explore Yosemite and the surrounding area. We realize that Oakhurst may not be the ideal lodging location, especially since Mariposa will not yet be open, but we are excited nonetheless. We have two kids, a toddler and an infant who are happy in hiking backpacks and can handle a few long car rides to get to scenic locations, but probably not every day of the trip. Areas/activities we are hoping to include are:

- Glacier Point

- renting bikes in Half Dome village

- Yosemite Falls

- Bass lake

- taking a train ride

Any suggestions or thoughts about these specific sites? Any additional areas we could plan for, especially anything close to the south entrance?

Thanks!

Hi

The town of Mariposa is open. It's Mariposa Grove that reopens on June 15th.

The Top Questions on the right is loaded with ideas to help your planning. Full TripAdvisor Website.

For your Valley tourism days, you might choose to leave Oakhurst really really early while the kids are kind of sleepy. Maybe they can sleep during some of the 90 minute drive. Park near Yosemite Village (visitor center) or at the Yosemite Falls parking lot and use the shuttle to get around. There are bike rentals at Yosemite Valley Lodge (near Yosemite Falls parking lot) as well. Maps are in the Top Questions.

Wawona is close to the South Gate. www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g61000-c196037 The kids might like the stage coach ride at the Pioneer History Center.

When is your visit?

Thank you for those tips! The bike rentals there look perfect. And we’re coming from the east coast and hoping to use our body clock schedule to our advantage and try and get our days started early like you suggested :) Our trip is actually next week! We’ll be meeting up with other family who have some things planned but are trying to get a better feel for what is doable with our little ones.
