Yosemite Early June 2018

Hello,

We are planning a trip to Yosemite the first week of June for 3-4 nights. We want to do some hiking and see varied areas of the park. We want to stay either in lodges or hotels (space-permitting, obviously) or potentially camping. My questions are as follows, and would really appreciate any advice!

1. What areas of the camp should we stay to see the highlights of the park for a first time visitor? Should we stay in different parks of the park or are we ok staying in one area and visiting the rest of the park on day hikes (we will also have a car and can potentially rent a bike).

2. If we choose one spot to stay, what area should that be?

3. Is there anywhere we can stay that we can hike to the "backcountry" or more remote areas?

4. Are 3-4 nights enough?

Thank you so much!

1. Yosemite Valley

2. Yosemite Valley

3. Almost all of the Yosemite backcountry is open to folks who can get to it. You MUST have a wilderness permit. https:/…backpacking.htm

4. Enough for some folks, not enough for others. How long is a piece of string?

.

Open the full TripAdvisor website. Look to the right at the Top Questions. Read about lodging (other visitors booked 9-12 months in advance), camping (campsites reserved within 3 minutes of becoming available), Trip Reports, former TripLists, what to do in various areas of the Park, and more.

If you get a Wilderness Permit, you can camp in the backpacker campground in the Valley for one night before beginning your hike.

Read about trailheads, bear canisters, spring conditions, and more.

A Wilderness Permit in Yosemite is for backcountry camping. Day hikes don't require permits, other than Half Dome.

There may be other requirements for the parts of the High Sierra that are not in Yosemite.

The big issue is IF you can get lodging/campsites! Don't give up even if you don't find anything at first. Look for 1 day/night at a time. Things do open up due to cancellations. I booked (felt like I won the lottery) a 4 night stay in Yosemite Valley camping at North Pines CG 2nd week in July!!!
