1 night in Yosemite

Hi Guys,

I'm in the middle of planning a VERY last minute road trip in California, 2 weeks worth.

Now, one of the planes was Yosemite but availability on the desired days is pretty limited for hotels which meet our requirements.

Essentially, we wont be doing much hiking, we don't plan to anyway. We want to see the view from tunnel view, glacier point and hopefully see the tunnel tree..

We will be coming from San Francisco on Thursday and was initially planning on staying until Saturday but the hotel we like doesn't have availability for Friday night, so I figured, we could stay there on the Thursday night, spend Friday seeing the 3 points of interest and once done, head out and stop somewhere for the night before reaching our next destination in Monterey. (Unless we could spend the day seeing everything we want and reach Monterey at a decent time for dinner perhaps???)

Is 1 night enough to do what we need to (and should do while there or are we going to miss out?)

Also, my girlfriend is a worrier, she is worried about food for lunch time, can we grab snacks in yosemite valley?

We want to avoid being too rushed so I'd love some feedback on the above plan.

Thanks for any help!

Yes, you can hit highlights in your length of time. Which hotel are you considering?

I carry picnic foods with me. I'm not a worrier, but I like to eat good food when I'm hungry (and not to stand in lines when I'm visiting a fabulous place.)

The Top Questions on the right will help. Read about Yosemite Valley and about Glacier Point Road. Read relevant Trip Reports.

What do you mean by "tunnel tree"? Mariposa Grove with the fallen Wawona Tunnel Tree and the walk-through California Tree is still closed.

It's about 4 hours to drive from Yosemite Valley to Monterey. I wouldn't leave Yosemite early, but it's your trip and your choice.

On Thursday, maybe spend the afternoon visiting Tuolumne Grove- which requires a bit of a hike in and out, but it has a dead tunnel tree

Friday- visit Yosemite Valley in the morning- a tram tour or diy tour including walking a bit of cooks Meadow loop for views? Lunch at Majestic or Pizza at Half Dome-- picnic is a great idea though. Tunnel View and Glacier Point in the afternoon. Then drive towards Monterey. (I would probably drive all the way, have dinner along the way.)

You could also rearrange your itinerary- visit Monterey first, then Yosemite and back to Cambria/Pismo. Perhaps this helps with Yosemite availability? I don't think it is too much more driving and you have to detour inland right now because of the Big Sur closure.

On page 8? Of the Yosemite Guide (which you get when you enter the park) has a list of food options- when open and location, and grocery stores

(You could show you GF :)
