Returning to Oahu next week, and have hired a car to tour the island on Thanksgiving, I am jsut wondering firstly if many places will be open (I see the premium outlets is most likely the only mall open) and if the road & beaches are very busy with locals not being at work.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

You will find a lot of locals out and about, with their turkey's at most local beach parks. All holidays bring out more locals for fun in the sun then any other time of the year. Most establishments in Waikiki will be open. The smaller mom and pop stores across the island probably will be closed.

Waikele is hit and miss.

Here's the scoop on Ala Moana.

I agree with msfuzz above. And schools are closed on Friday as well ... lots of people have Friday off for a 4-day weekend.
