Visiting over Thanksgiving

Hi all! 2 friends and I will be visiting Hawaii over Thanksgiving Nov 23-Dec 1. A few things, what will the weather be like? Is Thanksgiving a typically a busy time for vacationers to Hawaii? Do the Lu-au's run on Thanksgiving day? Are they extremely busy? We need a big meal to take place of gorging ourselves on turkey with our families. Also, we are staying at the Outrigger reef. Anyone stayed there? We are excited about the trip and hope we have a wonderful time. The highlight of the trip is getting to see a friends wedding. The only things we really want to do are visit pearl harbor and the arizona memorial, lu-au, and either do a shark encounter or a hike and bike/hike and snorkel. Any suggestions you guys have would be great! Thanks!

Even though you all are from Missouri it STILL aint

as warm as Hawaii

so why not make your Kinfolk back on the the mainland

nuts just Hearing that on Thanksgiving day you were

in the Warm Pacific Ocean Hawaii side at your hotel.

Eats? well most places are open inc Luaus

in Waikiki that is

Alot of HOnolulu closes until the next day.

FYI yes Waikiki is A part of Honolulu but it considers

itself separate.

further if you ask a local how to get to downtown

be prepared to visit the Bishop Alakea Hotel King streets

area and ChinaTown. and it also includes where the

big Cruise liners dock at near the Aloha Tower Marketplace.

Aloha

Hi Flecka,

There are two shark tours off the North Shore. We've taken my nephew on the hawaiinsharkencounters.com one. We had a great time and saw MANY sharks. As they are off the North Shore, and you are coming in Nov., check the weather--or ask the tours themselves, about the wave size. We went first of July but were still good swells 3 miles out. Just a thought if anyone is prone to motion sickness.

As for food on T'key day...was reading the Dining Out insert in yesterdays (Sun) Honolulu Advertiser. TONS of restaurants were advertising for that day. I think we may eat out too! Why cook for two?!

To see Pearl Harbor/Az memorial/Battleship Missouri: if you will have a car, take yourself. It's cheaper (only pay to get on the Mo) and you are on your own schedule if you want to just drive around and see more vs getting taken directly back to Waikiki. No car? Take the Bus. (thebus.org)

See hawaiiweb.com for hike and bike and etc ideas. Hiking Diamondhead is a to do. Like a lot of things, try to go early. If you drive the lot can get full quick. Plus, it's just cooler. Take a bottle of water. It's not a long hike or a tough one---for most people. I've seen a few VERY overwt and out of shape people try it and just get too winded. Stop at the outlets on the way up for breathers--and photo ops! Once you get to the very top you'll know why you did it!

And, don't try to do to much. It's vacation. Relax, and take it easy! You don't want to get back home and need a vacation to recover from your vacation!

Thanks for the info all! One more question. My beloved SIU salukis are playing the UH basketball team on monday the 29th. I am planning on catching the game and was wondering how far the basketball arena is from waikiki beach, in particular, the outrigger reef?

turn right on Kalakaua where you'll be staying keep

heading Diamondhead (East) be in your left lane when

coming up to Kapahulu should be signs

Turn Left and keep on Kapahulu until you see signs for

the H-1

Dont go take the East Exit or you will end up at KokoHead.

way beyond Diamondhead.

Take the Sign that says West and look for exit 24B

Manoa It will be on your Right hand side

the Slow way is to get to Kuhio Ala Wai Blvd

turn left head west until

McCully street take it to University Ave

and Unversity Ave where you will be heading toward

the mountains will also get you on the UH campus.

and if really brave check THEBUS

street revision Flecka10

old this part INComplete

the Slow way is to get to Kuhio Ala Wai Blvd

turn left head west until

McCully street take it to University Ave...

by car you will need to still get on KalaKAUa and

Left turn it at KaneKapolei ST

take it to Ala Wai Blvd

Be in the Right hand lane most as possible

because after 15 block (some shorty blocks) at the 16th one

you will need to turn RIGHT onto McCully ST

from McCully turn RIGHT onto

Kapi'olani blvd supposed be said Kapee o lawn ee

but lazily heard as cappy o Lawn ee

anyhow at the Blvd above turn right. and stay on until

you see signs for University Ave it runS almost perpendicular

but the street curves some

It is NOT an Out and Out Left turn you'll be take BUT

There will be lights so no worries

so now your on University ave

stay on it past the Varsity Theatre ( on the left- a guide mark)

and be in your Right Lane and watch for the signs.

You will also be going under the H-1 freeway (seem to)

before you approach the Campus Entrance.

Hope this Helps.

Thanks for the directions. This game should be a good test for my Saluki Ballers. A long road trip just like the one you guys took last year to our place.

We still have shorts weather here so bring lots of shorts and tank tops and your jackets for when you return home and step off the plane! Heh heh!! We are getting some rain too so bring the proper gear. Waikiki typically stays pretty dry comoared to the rest of the Island though. Gobble Gobble.
