Early morning tour in October.

My daughter is going to Sitka at the beginning of October. She will be there for a meeting and has no break to see Sitka during the day. If possible, she would like to take a tour or do some type of sightseeing from 6:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. Her meeting starts at 9:00 a.m. Any ideas? Also, will she be able to see the northern lights?

She has never been to Alaska and would really like to try to see some of the sights. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

That time of year you won't find any tours in Sitka. I'd recommend a rental car.

Northern Lights: you need 3 things. Dark skies, clear skies and aurora activity. You'll get dark skis in October if she can get away from other light sources (street lights, sign lights). Clear skies is random luck. Aurora activity is random luck. She can monitor aurora activity here: http://softservenews.com/

She will have a rental car. Any suggestions about what to see or do that early in the morning? Thanks

The sun doesn't come up until about 7:30 that time of year: http://www.sunrisesunset.com/calendar.asp?comb_city_info=Sitka%252C%2520Alaska%252C%2520USA;135.4468;57.2141;-9;1&month=10&year=2016&want_mphase=1&want_info=1&back=Search . Later if it's cloudy. So she probably won't be able to do much.
