Cabin. Which area?

Im looking for a cabin to rent in Nov. I don't know which town I should look for it in. We want to do hikes with waterfalls and some hikes with awesome views. Is Luray an area within a 30 min drive to hikes? We like hikes no longer than 5 miles round trip. Or is another town better to be closer to the Shenandoah National Park? Last minute getaway. Thanks

The park, and its trailheads are on the top of the mountains, and trailheads are not usually that close to the park entrances. The towns outside it are at the bottom of the mountains, so I think you should expect at least 30, but possibly closer to an hour to reach some trailheads from towns in the valley.

Why don't you select the trails you want to do, and pick a town based on that? Or pick a town with a cabin you like, and do whatever hikes are within reach for you. But you should expect that the closest is likely to be at least 30 minutes away.

Luray back into SNP will be at least 45min. to an hour. Have you looked at Graves Mountain Lodge & White Oak Canyon?

I should have posted 45 Min > 60 min. Drive time to Big Meadows & Byrd Center, which is the drive time it took us August & September 2016 from Motel on Rt. 211 in Luray, it took us close to 25 min. travel time from motel in Luray to area for Mary's Rock.

Your options will be stay on the park, which is much closer to the skyline drive or stay down in the valley. If you stay in the valley you will have a lot more options for meals, excursions, and shopping. If you stay in Luray there are many trails that can be accessed at the base of the mountain, which out going up on the drive.

If your looking for a fun short trail, Dark Hollow Falls is a short, but steep trail that is worth doing. This is one of the busiest trails on the part, due to its location and length. Its minutes away from Big Meadows and probably 35-45 minutes away from Luray (but it is a amazing drive).

If you stay in Luray, there are many hiking options. At the main red light in town, there is a outdoor store that will help you out with choosing a good trail to hike.
