San Antonio next week after this horrible weather
Save

Hi All,

We are scheduled to arrive next week but thinking of rescheduling so that we don't take any resources from folks that need them. This weather is horrible and I hope that everyone reading this is doing okay.

Should we stay away for a couple weeks? Or should we come support the San Antonio economy?

Julie

Personally I would put it off for a few weeks.

There are going to be so many broken pipes etc to repair etc and get electric back up.

Travis county has been one of the hardest hit after Houston area.

Grocery stores all over the state are empty, there is no gas available in the urban centers etc...

People will probably still be n hotels due to houses not livable etc...

It a mess all o et the state.😔

Thank you Reeneva. I will show your response to my husband, I am trying to convince him that we should reschedule.

I would postpone for a while. No bread or water in the stores. Most restaurants closed. It's 45 degrees in our house tonight. No running water, lots of people without power. The weather is usually nice late March and into April.

Definitely postpone. The freeze has obliterated our water systems. Pump, lift, and treatment stations are down all over the state. Once they get things back up, which could be as late as next week, we’ll probably be on a boil water notice.

Oh, I would absolutely wait.

This place is a disaster.

It is unbelievable how poorly the state handles inclement weather.

To be fair, I'm not sure the entire state has been under a winter storm warning before. That said, the usual "sit and wait for the roads to thaw" mentality is definitely not going to work in the days of advancing climate change. When the power and water grid are both woefully unprepared, there will be extensive dissection of what went wrong and who's to blame.

If we're lucky, they may even make some changes so we're better prepared the inevitable next time.

Wind and solar is about 10% of our output. Do you mean we need more?

Natural gas, at just over 50% also failed spectacularly.

Yes, absolutely postpone your trip! I posted a letter of disappointment to the Governor of Texas and multiple states who failed to prepare their states given advance warning the winter storm was coming. Not the possibility of it coming but was coming. I have military family trying to make it to Fort Hood who were stranded in the San Antonio airport and I had to rescue them. The interstates and highways are treacherous, many are left without power. My husband runs a power crew trying to get power returned to many homes and being the roads weren’t cleared they can’t get to many customers. I have relatives who are truckers in the state and the grocery stores that are open; they can’t deliver food because they are stranded on the roads. Anyone who has plans to travel to the areas where the snow storm occurred; rearrange your plans for your safety.

Thank you all. We have cancelled for next week and will watch the news to figure out when to reschedule.
