White water rafting in August/ fly fishing

Staying at Stanley Hotel. Any recommendations for half day white water rafting?

Also, any rivers nearby SH for fly fishing? How is the FF in August? Are the rivers too low? Thanks for any advice!

I believe one of our Estes Park DEs knows about fishing so hopefully he will see this.

In the meantime here is some info: http://estes-park.com/play/fishing-estes

The closest whitewater rafting would be on the Poudre River near Fort Collins: http://estes-park.com/play/river-rafting

August is a great time for fly fishing in Estes Park! Actually, about the only time that isn't a great time is when we have the spring runoff. The Big Thompson and Fall River meet in downtown Estes. From there, the Big T flows downstream into Lake Estes. This is close to the Stanley and is worth fishing. Although many people do not fish the downtown area, there are fish to be caught there. Kirk's Flyshop is right downtown and you can visit them once you are in town to get the latest scoop on where to fish and what patterns are working best for that time.

For rafting, check out Rapid Transit Rafting.

The half day whitewater rafting trip closest to Estes Park is indeed the Cache La Poudre River out of Fort Collins. Several companies out of Fort Collins raft the Poudre if you would like to drive yourself. During most years, the Poudre River is low by even the first week of August. In my opinion, if the Poudre is not running over 500 CFS, I would skip it. The trip can still be fun but it is not the whitewater experience you would get earlier in the season. You can check river levels here closer to your visit.
