Can I travel on Amtrak to the Springfield state fair?

You will need to get a ride from the train station to fairgrounds. The city bus service runs from downtown to the fairgrounds. I'm not sure of the location of their stops, so check their website or call them for exact information. https://www.smtd.org/statefair2017

Or you could use Uber.

Exactly. And as I said, the Springfield city transit offers shuttles from downtown, where the station is located, to the fair.

Basically, the Amtrak to Springfield more or less goes along the I-55 route between Chicago and St. Louis. So if you live near one of those towns, then yes, you can take Amtrak to the State Fair.
