New Orleans Original Coctail Tour -- first timers

Hi! Gearing up for our trip on April 18th! Any opinions on the New Orleans Original Cocktail Tour? Thought it might be a good place to start on our first afternoon in NOLA next Monday -- or is Monday not a good time for the cocktail tour?

While you are cocktail touring on foot Monday watch out for those who will be drinking and driving around the same time. Drinking and driving on bikes that is courtesy of CoC. :)

Luke is a great place. John Besh's restaurant. The service is great as is the food. Happy hour daily. You'll love it. 50 cent oysters during happy hour.

Brooklyn thanks for posting as this is exactly the same question I was going to ask. We are also going to NO for our first time in May and thought the cocktail tour would be a good first night. Is this through the Gray Line tours?

Cindy, yes, it is Greylines. The morning after we arrive we booked Big Easy for a bike tour of NOLA (3 hrs). I think that will be an awesome way to get the lay of the land. Something you might want to consider for your trip.

Domenica is a casual John Besh Italian restaurant in the Roosevelot Hotel a block from Canal Street. They have happy hour specials from 3/6 half price pizza and drinks. Dining at the bar at Domenica is fun. Luke is another John Besh restaurant in the Hilton on St. Charles. They have a 2 course express lunch for $15.00 and 3/6 Happy Hour half price drinks and 50 cent oysters. Dining at the bar at Luke is fun also.

Walk across Canal on N Peters and go W on S Peters 4/5 blocks to the corner of Lafayette and S Peters to Ernst Cafe which is over 100 years old for good happy hour and crawfish. They have outdoor tables. After you leave Ernst go W a block to Girod and 2 blocks N to Lucy's.

Wow, we would love to join you for the flokin' cocktail tour, but we're not getting back down to New Orleans until Nov.

For those of you that did the Original New Orleans Cocktail tour, what is included in the $27 price? If you get a signature drink at each place, it sounds like a good deal. If not, we'll probably just hit those places on our own.

You get one cocktail.

It is a two and a half hour tour, however, with a native New Orleans History Professor that wrote a book on New Orleans Cocktails. You also get a behind the scenes tour in many of the locations like Antoines and Muriels. Seems like it was only about $20 when we went on the tour in 09.

It is not like you just walk around on a pub crawl. Good background on the history of each cocktail, but more interesting is the background on the various establishments and the Mardi Gras Krewes history at Antoines in the private dining rooms.

I'd go again right now, and probably leave a $20 tip at the end.

Thanks for the quick reply and detailed review. I'll have to keep this one on our list for November. My wife and I love the history of New Orleans, so it sounds like a tour we'll enjoy.

Thanks again,

Mike
