New Glarus from Madison?

My sister in law is insisting that we spend a night in New Glarus. She is Swiss and the rest follows from there....so the question is....just how bad is New Glarus? Is it worth the trip? Is there anything close by to see? We are young and active and not too much into fondue but wine and beer will work. What about during the day? Is Glarner Stube worht eating at? She has booked us at Chalet Landhaus.

Thanks!

Just make sure you have a Spotted Cow draft before you leave.

New Glarus is nice little with interesting history and some really good beer. Check out the brewery. http://www.newglarusbrewing.com/ Also, the chamber of commerce has a decent webpage that can you tell you about the town and area.

Why would you assume that New Glarus is bad?

Some of the local attractions are only open May through October.

New Glarus Woods State Park offers hiking and some skiing if you are so inclined. Paoli, just a short drive north of New Glarus, offers art galleries and a more upscale set of shops to look through. The Sugar River Trail is also available for hiking, biking and skiing, if you want to get out of town.

There is also an apple orchard near New Glarus, if you are going soon. If she is Swiss, she will love New Glarus, and you should find things to make it worth your while, too.
