One or two nights at Nuwara Eliya?

We are a group of 6 to 7 people including 2 kids (age 9 and 11) planning to travel to Sri Lanka this December. We will be going from Yala to Nuwara Eliya. Planning to do Horton Plains, a stroll around Gregory Lake, visit a tea plantation and finally taking the train from Nuwara Eliya to Kandy. I read in some reviews/posts that it is enough to spend one night at Nuwara Eliya. In our case, one or two nights is better?

Hi elmo

To explain the review posts, some people looove Nuwara Eliya for its climate and colonial buildings, sports etc and some find it underwhelming. A few months ago I saw it in a new light - cleaner, brighter and more things to do. Based on your post:

"We will be going from Yala to Nuwara Eliya. Planning to do Horton Plains, a stroll around Gregory Lake, visit a tea plantation and finally taking the train from Nuwara Eliya to Kandy. "

Check out the time needed. Tissamaharama to Nuwara Eliya is around 150km which is a full day trip in Sri Lanka. Horton Plains needs a very early morning start and could take most of the day, especially with children. It's a place to enjoy, not rush through [ unless it is raining!] A stroll around Gregory Lake will also take time as there are parks for children, boating and so on. a visit to a tea plantation could take a couple of hours, depending on which you choose. Then you need to meet the train aat a specific time.

I'm thinking that to enjoy yourselves and be relaxed you will need two nights.

Thanks to all of you. Taking the train, is it better to go from Ella to Nuwara Eliya or from Nuwara Eliya to Kandy?

Hi,

In your case 2 nights better.

Day 1: Reach to Nuwara Eliya around lunch. Evening hang around lake and over night stay.

Day 2: Around 7 am be at the HP park gate & leave park around noon. After lunch break rest a bit then hang around Victoria park (children's' park), Nuwara Eliya town, Fruit markets, over night stay.

Day 3 : Morning time take train from NanuOya to Kandy.
