Touring Rhinebeck and Hudson River Valley

We'll be visiting the Rhinebeck/Kingston area in October for the Sheep/Wool Festival, then eventually heading south as we fly out of Hartford 5 days later. What are your suggestions for how to best use our touring time, other moderate price places to stay, and if anyone has been to the festival, your suggestions for navigating it. Thanks in advance, Abby

The Sheep and Wool Festival is fun. Plenty to see but not so big your feet will rebel on you, easy enough to find your way around map here: sheepandwool.com/general-information/map-of-… (If you are a yarn addict, give your wallet and credit cards to someone else to hold - there are SO many temptations.) And check out the workshop schedule, as you may wish to reserve a spot if something strikes your fancy: http://www.sheepandwool.com/workshops/

I had friends come in from the west to work the festival a couple of years ago. They stayed in a hotel across the river in Kingston as it was more affordable. https://goo.gl/maps/5kG6i I'm not sure where they stayed, think it was a chain like the Hampton Inn. Lodging prices will vary a lot, and I think things get pretty booked up in advance near the festival site.

There are a variety of towns with things to do and see: http://www.travelhudsonvalley.com/

Also, "Each registered student receives a two day admission to the Festival at no additional charge."

Workshops start at about $45 so. (although some of the less expensive workshops are already sold out.)

General admission is $10.50 in advance, $12 at the gate.
