Accommodation in NYC March 2014

Hi all,

Interested in your thoughts about accommodation in NYC in March 2014.

My husband and I will be in the city for 10 days we have a budget of $250-00 pn. We are both in our 40's and enjoy the theatre, dining out and shopping, we love to try and live like the locals :) We have stayed on the Upper West side previously and loved it, but we are thinking of exploring a different neighbourhood. This is our first trip to NY WITHOUT the children!!

Thank you in advance for your input.

Regards,

Relle.

For 10 days, I,d want at least a kitchenette and most of the suites with those are in midtown or UWS. If you intend doing a lot of theater, what about staying near it? Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites are both good value for money. If you don't care about the kitchenette, the new Hilton Garden Inn Central Park, north of Times Square, should be very nice. If you'd rather not be in midtown, maybe a suite at

Check travelzoo. They have some good offers that run through march. Booked then rebooked a room saved $400 for a week long stay

Apt rentals in NYC for less than 30 days are illegal. That includes the ones listed here on TA and airbnb.

March is generally a moderate time for hotel prices and tourist travel in NYC. Not peak hotel prices, but not rock bottom either. You should have a number of good options for your budget.

It's a transition time, with good hints of spring and mild weather possible, but chilly to cold temperatures are also possible.

A suite at Chelsea Lodge (as suggested by Whiz) really feels like "living like a local". The suites are studio apartments in a small Chelsea brownstone. It's not far from the theater district. We walked it (~30 min), but it's also an easy subway ride.

The suites are not perfectly updated, and furnishings are a bit retro and rustic (but sturdy and serviceable), the mattress a bit hard, but it's fine and feels like a very "authentic NYC" apartment. Eclectic original artwork added a nice touch. We stayed there a few months ago.

For apartment style hotels which are legal, as opposed to apartments for less than 30 days which aren't, have a look at Radio City Apartments and the Affina hotels.
