St. Patrick's Day - when do the lines start at Irish bars?

We're hoping make the festivities last into the evening, so we were hoping to not have to get in line at 8:00 am if we want to get into the better Irish bars (e.g. Black Rose, Plough & Stars, etc). Any idea when we'd need to be on the streets before we'd be dealing with a lengthy wait? I know a number of factors impact this (including weather), but some general suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

The last time St Patrick's Day fell on a Saturday, I had a 'full Irish breakfast' at The Grand Canal at about 9am. It was quiet. Afterwards I did a little shopping in the North End before heading home at about noon time. The areas around the Irish pubs near Quincy market were getting busy.

When St Pat's is on a weekday the lines start forming around 4pm when workers start sneaking out a bit early. On a any given Saturday if the weather is good, there can be lines at night. So, I would plan for mid- to late-afternoon.

Sorry I don't have a more concrete answer for you. Good Luck!

I've never heard of Plough & Stars.

Beagle - it’s on Mass. Ave. in Cambridge.

Thanks for the feedback. We didn’t know what to expect on a Saturday.

You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning 😀

Smitty - that's a legitimate point, but alas, starting in the morning is a younger man's game. These days it's all about pacing.

Black Rose will have a line very early.

The most authentic Irish bar in town is Mr. Dooley's.

Mr. Dooley's is definitely in our plans. It helps that it's right next to our hotel.

My assumption is that we should expect some lines at the better Irish venues, and we will plan accordingly.

Thanks again.
