What area of SF to stay?

We are a family of 5 (three sons 16, 18, 22) traveling to SF in early June. I am very overwhelmed and have no idea what part of the city to stay in. We will only be there three days and probably would like to rent a apt./flat. Want to be close to public transportation, as we are not going to rent a car and will be coming from SFO. Would like to see the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf and ride the trolley. Any suggestions?

For rentals look at vrbo.com and airbnb.com.

If you find a place that works for you get the cross streets, not just a neighborhood "name" and come back to the forum so that the SF folks can advise you.

You might see if Grosvenor Suites can accommodate you. They are near Union Square.

I am familiar with vrbo, but not with airbnb. Thanks!

FlipKey.com is the TripAdvisor vacation rental site.

I am not sure how many people are willing to rent for three days and factor in the costs of clean-up etc in the per day cost.

As puter says, be careful of the neighborhood names, they get pretty squishy on the vacation rental sites.
