In n' out burgers are good and close to Fisherman's wharf. Ana Mandara is Vietnamese and is an expensive and upscale place. There is Gary Danko, one of the best in the city and expensive.

For Seafood, Waterbar along the Embarcadero is good, Swan Oyster Depot, Sotte Mare in North Beach

In Chinatown, R&G lounge is a great place. Search this forum for many other places.

yelp, urbanspoon and chowhound are the places to go for restaurant recommendations.

For lunch get on a trolley (or walk) the Embarcadero to the Ferry Building which is packed with places to eat all local sustainable etc and many cuisines.

I would recommend taking the streetcar up to the ferry building. there are several nice restaurants there. plus the building is beautiful. I can't be more specific as we rarely eat out in the touristy areas.

If you will be in fisherman's wharf I would recommend visiting the Musee Mecanique but bring several quarters. the place is full of fun coin operated toys and acade games, many of them historic. very cool.

I hope you have a great time in SF.

The Ferry Building is a touristy area? Wow this is bad advice. But it is a free web site and all opinions are welcome, even mine.

For good seafood look at Tadich Grill, Sam's Grill and Sotto Mare. SF is a very small city and cabs are cheap so you are better off cabbing someplace for a better meal than trying to walk someplace average.

At Fisherman's Wharf I do like Scoma's for their cioppino and McCormick & Schmick's for their fresh fish and less for their composed dishes.

Chinatown doesn't have the best Chinese food in San Francisco, that is in Inner and Outer Richmond. Good Luck Dim Sum, Shanghai Dumpling King, San Tung and Ton Kiang are all very good places in the Richmond neighborhoods.

In or near Chinatown, there are some good Chinese place like R&G Lounge, Hong Kong Clay Pot Restaurant and Z&Y Restaurant.

In case you haven't noticed, it's kind of difficult to get forum regulars to enthusiastically recommend restaurants in the Whatf area.

Since these cater to the tourist trade, they aren't really concerned about generating repeat business. The results are meals that are generally considered overpriced and underperforming.

SF is so compact that a (relatively) short walk or ride on public transit will take you ti other areas where you'll eat better and probably for less money.

That is why so few of the recommendation given are actually located in the Whaf area.

If you absolutely want recoimendations that are "right outside" your hotel (i.e. a few blocks or less), let us know and we can (reluctantly?) give them; but otherwise don't be surprised if the vast majority of the suggestions are in areas other then Fisherman's Wharf.

Just wanted to point out why so few of the suggestions are Wharf restaurants.

There are very few places within walking distance of the Radisson that I would eat. However one exception is Butterfly is near the Alcatraz pier and is known for Asian/Fusion. Pier 23 would be another. La Mar near the Ferry Building is also good (albeit pricey).
