Hana Day Trip Itinerary

We will be coming Maui in late June. We will be driving the Road to Hana on a Monday. We plan to drive to Black Sand Beach and then turn back. Please advise on my itinerary with the current times and activities if they are reasonable and doable. I especially do NOT want to drive back in the dark! Is there room to stay later than 4:00 and still make it back before dark?

8:45 - 10:00

11:30 - 12:30

Not bad, overall :-). But I would probably be open to adjusting times to suit the attraction and conditions.

Late June can mean small waterfalls. I also doubt that you need an hour at Nahiku Marketplace, for example.

Be careful of the ocean conditions near the lava tunes and at Waianapanapa.

No, you shouldn't stay past 4.

4:00pm is the absolute latest I would stay to get back before dark. There is a good chance by the time you get to Aunt Sandy's she will already be sold out. I would throw the times out the window and make it as spontaneous as possible. You never know how much time you will want to spend at any given spot or traffic you might hit!!

Aloha! Prepping to do first trip to Hana with two senior parents and teenager. No strenuous hiking and would like to keep it as spontaneous as possible. We are in Maui first week of Oct. What are you locals must sees and dos along the way? Do we need to leave at 6am really? What are the implications of not doing leaving early? I dont want to over plan or worry too much about being back by dark just want as much fun as possible hopefully laughs along the way.

The implications of not leaving early is more traffic, not getting to see all you wanted or driving the Hana hwy. in the dark. Thing is, you can go at whatever pace you desire. You won't see it all no matter what or what time you leave.

Take a look at the Top Questions on the right hand side of this page. Lots of info there. The best waterfalls are beyond Hana. Don't put yourself on time limits. Just make sure you are on your way back 2 hrs before sunset.

It's not a lot of miles but it'll take longer than you think.

www.hawaii-guide.com Especially good web-site for Hana.
