Poipu Kai Resort

Thank you all for your help.

I will be staying at the POIPU KAI. Can anyone give me REAL deal info about this property?

The pros & cons if any. I wish I had known about this form prior to booking.

Poipu Kai has several areas. Manualoha, Kahala, Regency, The Villas at Poipu Kai, Makanui and Poipu Sands. There are also homes in the Poipu Kai community. Which property did you rent? That would be helpful information.

Poipu Kai is huge and isn't just one complex. It's 5 different complexes on over 150 acres. The complexes have formed one legal master community called Poipu Kai. The complexes vary in quality and pricing and vary greatly in how good their location is. The lowest numbered units of Kahala and Manualoha are the closest to the beach. Units in the other complexes can require a drive to the beach. Each complex has it's own pool and you use the one in your complex plus you can use the master pool by the tennis courts.

The pros about Poipu Kai is you can be within a very close walk to Poipu Beach Park. But you have to rent through a site that allows you to pick the exact unit you want. As an example, Aston lets you book by view category. You could end up in any of the complexes and arrive to find out you have to drive to the beach plus have NO view. Complexes such as Kahala and Manualoha have 2 restaurants within walking distance. Poipu Sands has none other than the expensive restaurants next door at the Hyatt.

If you're serious about Poipu Kai you need to rent directly from an owner on sites such as VRBO or airbnb. Or, rent through a local Poipu rental agent. The agency that has most of the units at Poipu Kai is SUITE PARADISE. The office is onsite next to Kalapaki Joe's restaurant. Great people there. Parrish Kauai manages a decent number of units there.

If you look at the map that Martik gave you take a look at the beach in the lower left side. Then find the tennis courts above it. Manualoha is the buildings to the right of the tennis courts and Kahala is the buildings right next to and above the tennis courts. Again, the building closest to the water in both cases is building 1 and go higher in number as you go up the hill.

Poipu Kai can be a great place if you do your homework and know what you want as far as location, complex and you're able to rent the unit you want.

We also are quite happy with poipu kai having 12 years of visits. Rented thru ( suite paradise) and napa described them rather well.

Would like to add on a bit. I really enjoy sharing our experiences at poipu kai. We stayed for two week visits in three different sections over the years, swapping them around. . Kahala, manualoha, and poipu sands. Loved them all, Fav was manualoha.

We did not pay extra for an ocean view since we were not resort roosting, but were at the beaches, and also snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, going on activites, and exploring island wide. So we just reserved a garden view. That is just our thinking, not necessarily others ideas.

The units are large, nicely appointed, clean and comfortable, lanais with patio furniture, easy parking at your unit, no long walks or valet parking, bbqs for your building, feels homey kind of like you live there,

We could walk to poipu beach, and brenneckes beach from kalahala or manualoha sections. Due to the large property area , it never seemed crowded at poipu kai. And the few others that we would meet were friendly and exchanged greetings. We loved the easy aloha attitudes.,

Other things that we enjoyed about booking with siute paradise for poipu kai, After the long day of travel and all that entails, when checking on at the on property reception office, we would ask if we could get a welcome maitai there at the desk as we got our paper work, and keys. You betcha.

Then, in the refer at all of our units was a complementary bottle of wine and chilled glasses,

When we return for a visit, we will once again be staying at poipu kai.

We liked the friendly staff, the wide open landscaped well kept property, the units were all excellent, never a problem, and we felt like we were living on island, not a visitor at a resort.

Welcome to kauai

We have purchased a Costco package that includes an ocean view condo at Poipu Kai. No idea yet what complex we will be in...I asked for Kahala or Manualoha.

Azzure, how much you paid will greatly determine where you end up. The low numbered buildings in the complexes closer to Poipu Beach Park garner higher rates. Packagers will hold those out for the bigger dollars. Packagers put together what looks to be very good deals however that can mean you don't get the better locations. This goes for condos and hotel rooms too. Here's to hoping you're satisfied.

We had a condo there years ago and I really liked it. We were in a very large luxurious condo about as close to Poipu Road as you can get. This unfortunately put us pretty far from the beach. Our complex had it's own small pool with a BBQ. Many times we were the only ones using it, and it was maybe 30 steps from our door. By resort standards Poipu Kai is not too densely populated. The grounds were very well manicured and the walking paths are very enjoyable. You made a very good choice IMO.
