Yes, DHCR will put you with Thrifty or possibly Dollar for only an additional $10.00 per day. They're the only 3rd party broker I ever recommend. Ben renting thru them for years.

Thanks, Sunnysandiego, I missed the word Poipu

Ryan, so it sounds like you're looking for a driver who would be able to take all around the island to see and do all of the must-see's and then some.

I know a car may SEEM expensive but in reality it's going to be less than what you would end up paying a personal driver to haul you around the island and back. Give us how much you've budgeted for this driver and we can tell you if you could even consider it , considering your budget. My guess is you will be surprised at what they will charge and how much above the price of a rental car for maybe $175 total. The fact is, tourism is Kauai's number 1 economy. And any smell of tourists spells money. There's no inclination to cut tourists a break. The myth there is that tourists are loaded and have money to burn. So don't expect any personal driving services for cheap. The other problem is reliability and timeliness. Lower your expectations if you find someone.

Again, let us know what your budget is for this personal driving service and we can tell you if it's at all realistic. They are taxi cab services that will operate as more of a personal sightseeing escort but I've heard of prices higher than signing up for an organized tour by van or bus.

DEFINITELY get a quote through Discount Hawaii Car Rental. The only company I'll use. Not only is their underage driver fee less but you can get the second driver for free too.

Renting a car is no where near as expensive as renting a driver on the island. You are talking about hundreds of dollars a day.
