Valldemossa or Deia?

Planning a day trip from Palma to Port de Soller by bus. The route goes through Valldemossa and Deia, giving us the option of spending 2 hours in one of the towns in the morning. Which would be the best to visit, based on us being on foot and having things to see and maybe some interesting shops? It will be a Wednesday morning in early July.

I would agree with the previous unless you are a literature fan or like celebrity spotting! Deia has got the Robert Graves museum in his former house and his grave at the church, it has also got a fair smattering of celebrity residents that you can sometimes see wandering about. Most of the cafes and restaurants are on the main road through the town which gets very busy in the summer. It has got the Calla but it would take most of your two hours just to get there and back. Valldamossa whilst busy in the summer is more spread out with the main roads off the through road so feels more laid back and more Spanish.

Valldemossa, definitely. Go to see the Chopin and George Sand museum, it is in a spectacular setting, and is lovely even if you are not interested in the people.

There are some shops to wander round, and cafes to relax in.

For me, Deia is only worth the trip if you are going to one of the restaurants, there isn't much of any interest there (except the Robert Graves museum, which is very interesting!, but a fair bit out of the village). It is a pretty village, but that's about it.
