Snowbird First time-- Mom needs Help!

Going to SLC Christmas time and want to stay somewhere near Snowbird for one nite so family (6 adults) can ski there one day. I can't get a feel for what is closeby and we need something affordable. Our SLC lodging is near the University so thought we'd drive toward Snowbird and stay 1 or 2 nites there. Really need some help finding a place, everything is so expensive. We already have plans for Park City, so just need info on where to stay in Snowbird area.

You could stay in Park City the whole time because Park City is only 35-45 minutes from Salt Lake and probably an hour and 15 to Snowbird. You don't really need to change hotels in the middle of your trip unless you really want to be right there.

As long as the canyon isn't closed due to snow removal, it's probably about 45 minutes or so to drive from the university area to Snowbird.

But there are many affordable places in the south end of the SL valley that are closer.

I might just spend an extra night at the place near the university that you have already.

There are really no affordable places close to Snowbird (in Little Cottonwood Canyon). The closest inexpensive places would be a few miles from the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon, which would only save you about 20 minutes of driving (would still be 25 minutes awat from Snowbird). I'd say stay put by the university.
