Quick weekend in Nashville

Hi! We will be in the area this weekend. There are 4 of us celebrating our 40th bdays. Looking for suggestions on music venues, great local restaurants (not fine dining). We’d like to steer clear from the 20 something bachelor party type places. Thanks in advance!

There's a link on the right under the "Top Questions" section about 5th from the top about what bands/events will be happening.

As for the honky tonks, they're all free so you can wander in and out until you find one you like. Honky Tonk Central, Nudie's, and FGL house skew more "woo!" girls and Roberts Western World, Layla's, Second Fiddle, and The Stage skew more traditional. Others mostly fit somewhere along that spectrum so just try them out.

If you want a thumbs up or down on specific places, we'll be glad to offer based on our knowledge. It's kind of hard to give a recommendation for a place when we don't know your tastes and curiosities.

Glad to hear you won't be contributing to the "Woo Factor" while you're in town, although visitors from Chicago have a reputation in Nashville as being able to seriously party as the Bears fans a few years ago, literally drank all the beer in downtown!

^ It's because we are used to drinking PBR, Old Milwaukee, Old Style and Milwaukee's Best. We didn't realize beer could go down so smoothly when it is a fancy, exotic brand like Bud Light :-)

Ha! I remember that story!

We are into local dive bars with great live music, anything unique to Nashville would love to try some local food, maybe southern.

An under the radar place I do not mention enough on here is the Back Alley Diner. It is literally in the back alley in between 4th and 5th Ave just north of Church St. Very low key place with great food and drinks.

They have some southern staples on their menu such as fried catfish and pulled pork as well as the usuals like burgers, wraps, etc.

We actually loved Mellow Mushroom on Broadway for pizza. Music was great too.
