Anglesea - summer crowds?

Anglesea seemed a busy place when popping in briefly last Jan. (Not surprised - most of Melb wanting a summer holiday & many forced to stay local). Expect same Jan 2022...

Wondering how busy it gets? Like shoulder to shoulder on the beach? Gridlock traffic & supermarket queues? Or manageable?

Our family likes a few things to do but mostly to enjoy the beach & bush walks.

Anglesea has always been busy in January...up untill about the middle of the month, when the holiday makers have to go back to work,

Lots of daytrippers as well,

This was pre plague days.

There's a roundabout in Anglesea near the main shops that can create long snaking queues along the Great Ocean Road in both directions.

At the peak of the peak (December 26 to a day or two after New Years) it is likely to be extremely busy anywhere along the GOR as far as Apollo Bay, still busy beyond there but not as nutty. It starts to peter out a little bit crowd wise after that, picks up again for Australia Day/end of school hols (especially if there's a long weekend involved). Come Feb, it's comparatively quiet.
