French Quarter vs Historic District

Is the French Quarter part of the Historic District? If not, is it close by? Is it safe to walk around at night? We were looking at the Francis Marion but are a bit concerned re the reviews dated small bathrooms). For $500 more total we could stay at The Vendue. Is it worth the money? Which location is better? Thanks so much in advance!

So the French Quarter is a section of the Historical District? Is the entire peninsula the historic district? Is the historic district walkable or is it so big that you need to drive around (or from section to section) to see it all?

The entire peninsula is not the historic district. The HD is roughly south of Calhoun Street and from the eastern side (harbor side) of the peninsula west to about Legare Street. (pronounced La Gree) You can walk to all the main attractions. If you just want to drive around some of the other areas to see residential homes, you can. Most of the historic sites are in a area smaller than what I delineated above. There is also a free bus called DASH that has 3 routes on the peninsula, there is no narration (it is not a tour) but gets you from one place to another. There are also pedicabs that you pay to take you place to place, if you get tired of walking.

Did you stay in an interior room or one with a window?
