Campervan rentals

We are heading back to Australia to get away from the long cold Canadian winter. We are looking at campervan rentals and see a pretty good deal from Camperman. Does anyone have any feedback on this company? Just want to check them out to make sure it is not a situation of "too good to be true" or "get what you pay for". Any feedback on any of the rental companies would be greatly appreciated.

1. Re: Campervan rentals

In simple terms, with campervans you usually get what you pay for. Just read the TA reviews.

If you are set on hiring one, look at http://www.vroomvroomvroom.com.au for choice (us locals would rarely hire a campervan - just use our car plus camping/caravan/motel/holiday cabins/apartment. Campervans are high on fuel usage, slow on the roads, can be difficult to drive, have a poor reputation and can only be parked overnight in designated areas (and that can be expensive).

Just for your information. Adaminaby is nestled in the foot hills of the Kosciusko national park about 50k from Cooma on the Snowy Mountains highway. In winter it's an ideal base for snow play as it is about an hour from Kiandra and the Selwyn snow fields. During the trout season it's a great place to base yourself for some serious fly fishing with Lake Eucumbene only a short distance away.

I know the town well as family had a holiday house there and for many years it was our favourite holiday destination during winter.

Enjoy your trip to this country.

Do a lot of research here on TA for campervans as there's heaps of negative comments plus an occasional positive report on campervan hire.

Have a read of this article with some tips if you do hire.

http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Travel-g255101-c214596/Western-Australia:Australia:Campervans.Vs.Sedan.Car.Hire.html

As mentioned, Hiring a campervan tends to be a tourist thing. Australians use tents, caravans, camping trailers or cabins in caravan parks for their camping adventures. A good option to consider is to set yourselves up ( can be done fairly cheaply )with a tent and gear and stay unplowered sites and NPs plus sometimes use other accommodation. Donate supplies to charity shops before you leave.

If something seems too good to be true then be very cautious.
