Is there enough time

Staying in the Bremmerton/Seattle for a few days. Plan is we leave Bremmerton on Monday morning, drive to Hood River and spend Monday night there. Tuesday morning drive to Portland and on to Newport or Tillamook then back to Portland for Tuesday night. Fly out of Portland back home on Wednesday afternoon. Is this to much?

Yes, it's very doable.

Coming from the Seattle area I suggest that at Vancouver, WA you take Highway 14 on the Washington side of the Columbia River to White Salmon and cross a toll bridge to Hood River. Stevenson, WA is a nice town to stop for a meal either in town or at Skamania Lodge.

Tuesday you can then start to the coast back through the Gorge on Interstate 84 which gives you another perspective of the Gorge from the Oregon side. You can make it to Newport in 4 hours or less of driving time but you'll probably want to make a couple of stops in the Gorge. The best route to Newport considering scenery and being reasonably direct is to meet the coast at Lincoln City and then South down Highway 101 to Newport.

Wednesday you can make it from Newport to PDX by way of Highway 20, Interstate 5 and Interstate 205 in about 2 & 1/2 hours. Allow for possible traffic congestion in the greater Portland area which is usually not bad for a major city but they have some slow downs at times, rush hour, ect.

Do you plan on doing anything in Portland on your way to the coast from the gorge or just straight on through? Newport is a 3.5 hour drive and Tillamook is 2.5 hours from Hood River, although traffic may affect that. If your goal is seeing the coast it's totally do-able. If you want to spend time in Portland, it will be tight.

Sounds like your Tuesday is a full drive to the coast and back to Portland. No coast overnight. Unless there's some commitment to getting to Newport (or Tillamook), you'll have a better time IMO if you just go to the north coast - Seaside, Cannon Beach area. Same coast, same great scenery (basically)....and MUCH shorter drive time. Much more time for seeing the coast, strolling on the beach, short hike, lunch at a great restaurant, etc.

I agree- Tuesday you will spend almost your entire day in the car. Oregon may look small on a map, but it is actually a rather large state. Your itinerary is physically possible, but it allows very little time for sight-seeing and/or exploring.

Ugh. All day in the car. The times mentioned above are very generous... it will take you longer. Most of the roads in Oregon are two lane - one lane each direction - with limited passing lanes. You will get behind slow RVs, slow trucks and just plain slow drivers.

I came back from Newport today on 101 and there was a long line of cars - at least 15 - stacked up behind a small car. That was on a stretch where most of us drive 60 or so... but not that car!

Also, summer is roadworks season. Expect short delays in lots of areas.
