college visit

My 16 yr old daughter and I will be visiting ORU from CT in Feb. Any suggestions on inexpensive hotels that are safe and clean? We are leaning toward the Baymont.

Also, We will have 2 days to explore the area...any suggestions for things to do and places to eat? Is Oklahoma City worth the trip to see?

As for things to do, Tulsa has two very nice museums, Philbrook and Gilcrease. Things to see in OKC would include the Cowboy Hall of Fame and the OKC Bombing Memorial. OKC is about a two hour drive from Tulsa on the I-44 toll road. Nearer to Tulsa is the Will Rogers museum in Claremore and Woolaroc, a western art and artifacts museum located at the country home and ranch of Frank Phillips, the founder of Phillips Petroleum Company, between the towns of Barnsdall and Bartlesville. Also in Bartlesville, is the Price Tower Arts Center, housed in the Price Tower - the only skycraper ever built by Frank Lloyd Wright.

I can't really help you out on accomodations or dining options, without knowing more about what you are looking for in terms of cost and other specifics.

If you make it to OKC(Oklahoma City), you may want to check out our newest historical museum, The Oklahoma History Center. It just opened last year and is said to have Smithsonian quality exhibits. It is on my list of places to visit, but I have not made it there yet. Admission is only $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students, so it certainly is affordable too! Check it out at www.okhistorycenter.org/ and have a good visit!

For activities you might try the Oklahoma Aquarium, just West of the Arkansas River Bridge going into Jenks (around 96th St., just a couple miles South of ORU). There are also a couple of new shopping/dining areas on both sides of the river, the most popular of which is probably River Walk Crossing on the West side, just North of the river bridge.

For the typical shopping mall experience, you can wander around Woodland Hills Mall @ 71st & Memorial. If it's a nice day, you can walk around the up-scale Utica Square shopping area, at 21st & Utica Ave.

Another couple of fun areas to look for eclectic stores & places to eat are the Cherry Street area, on 15th Street between Peoria and Utica, and the Brookside area, on Peoria Ave. between 33rd & 51st.

Other posts have covered the Gilcrease & Philbrook Museums in Tulsa and the Oklahoma City bombing memorial--all good choices.

For church on Sunday you might drop in on Asbury United Methodist Church, relatively new (last couple years) location @ 68th & Mingo (near Woodland Hills Mall area)--large church, lots of activities, growing young adult programs.
