dracha or euro

coming over in May 2012, anyone believe the dracha will be back by them or still the euro, I feel sorry for all the local people regards to pensions and cost of living and state of the country. lets hope there is still a strong support for holidays in the islands, supporting the local community.

It is unlikely that Greece will return to drachmes.

It will still be the euro. Don't follow the scaremongering.

( and thank you from the bottom of my heart for the thoughtful question ).

It will be euro for sure if you ask me and that is a certainty. Drachma or euro living and working in greece should be considered as an achievement. Fortunately we have good weather sea and our sense of humour so we take comfort. I am quite sure that the crisis will hit other countries like italy and france eventually so i feel sorry for the young people worldwide

Sorry clapman, your second link just set off my MS anti-virus software - think it must have been hi-jacked.

Hmmm... i too believe there will be the euro as currency, judging from today's news... With either currency the pensions will go down though, one way or another. :(

Realistically, it would take many months for Greece (or any other euro country) to go back to having its own currency. At the moment, it is awash with euro notes and coins, which could have been issued by any euro country. Greece would have to print new notes, mint new coins, and then have some method of exchanging euros for the new currency.

It took years of planning to introduce the euro. It will not be possible to unscramble the currency quickly.
