Hi we are staying in the area in August . Can you tell me are there a lot of stray cats around especially in or around the restaurants as I have a daughter who is very nervous around cats
It's Greece , there will always be cats as soon as you sit down at a taverna .
Whether they belong to the owners or not , they neither discourage or encourage them , they are tolerated .
They will go if you shoo them away though.
Its the same all over Greece I'm afraid. We have cats so its doesnt bother us so much but if you see any just politely let the waiter know that your daughter is nervous of them and they will probably shoo them away for you anyway x
Thanks for your replies I think we going to risk it!! and hopefully she will get over her fear.
VIsit a pet shop now and have her hold a kitten. That will help
You were lucky then as we just got back on Sunday. We stayed in Kamilari but ate in a few different areas and there were cats in most of them. Some of them had 6 or 7 at a time x
I saw quite a few walking round Koutouloufari, and in our accommodation halfway between Hersonissos and KTLF, but perhaps down on the front they aren't encouraged so much. BTW, did you stay in Kamilari village, near Timbaki? I presume OP is staying in Hersonissos as they have posted on the Hersonissos forum.
