Tullamarine airport to Daylesford CHEAPEST FASTEST TRANSPORT

Flying into Melbourne Tullamarine need to get to Daylesford; 2 adults. We don't want to hire a car unless we have to. Staying two nights at Peppers then WOULD LIKE to to get to Melbourne CBD. Or should we go to Melbourne first then onto Daylesford? Same thing have to get transport from Daylesford to the airport. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks in advance :)

Firstly, Peppers is in Hepburn Springs - not Daylesford. So you would need to get a cab from Daylesford.

There's no direct, cheap or easy way of getting to Daylesford by public transport.

You would have to get into Melbourne, probably on the Skybus.

From Southern Cross Station, you take the Bendigo line train and get off at Woodend and from there, take a bus to Daylesford. There are only two buses a day, one 9 am and 6:25 pm. It's very much a commuter service.

Are you sure you don't want to hire a car? It will not only be quicker, but probably cheaper.

Actually to get to Daylesford is very straight forward with public transport from Tullamarine. No need to go into Central Melbourne. That will cost you considerably more and be taking you in the wrong direction.

First taxi from airport to Sunbury Railway station, journey time about 20 minutes. The station staff are friendly and they will explain how to use the Myki ticket.

Vline from Sunbury to Woodend, a quaint station on the Bendigo line. Immediate connection to the Vline coach direct to Daylesford.

I travel out there regularly and there is no need for a car. Local transport with the occasional taxi is sufficient.

Yes,of course, Wayoutback is quite correct. Picking up the train in Sunbury is indeed a possibility.

However, there are still only 2 Vline buses a day to Daylesford, as mentioned before.

Taxi fare calculator has the estimated fare to Sunbury as being between $50 and $70. Having driven that road many times, it sounds about right. It's about 25 km.

Taxi fare to Hepburn Springs from Daylesford would be about $15 more.

That's already about 2 days car rental even before you add on the fares from Sunbury to Daylesford.

There wouldn't be many taxis in Daylesford, either. Population is just under 3000 (2011 census). Creswick (20 mins away, slightly larger population) has only 2 taxis.

Jane,

You can take public transport as described 2 years ago but you would need to check timetables.

The best way, especially if you want to explore Daylesford (Peppers is in Hepburn Springs & a long walk to Daylesford township) is to hire a car at the airport & return it to the city on Saturday afternoon. If you do this check with hire company what time you can drop off the car
