It depends what somewhere "v.nice to stay" means to you

I had many happy nights at the Castle Inn a couple of years ago - it's very reasonable for family rooms (double bed + pull out sofabed that's plenty big enough for two young kids) as it's part of the Innkeeper's Lodge chain, food is OK chain fare, the old building is nice, it's right in the centre of the village and has parking

As for outdoors fun, the caves are good (Peak Cavern & Treak Cliff possibly the best/most interesting for kids??), a stomp up to Peveril Castle is a must, there are walks of all lengths around
