A day around Rideau Lakes

We're driving from Kingston to Ottawa and staying overnight in Perth (not necessary, I know, but taking the drive leisurely!). I'd like to see the best parts of the Rideau Lakes area, perhaps a boat trip (not canoe), a nice village/town (other than Perth), whatever's good. Any tips?

Westport is a nice little village on the Upper Rideau Lake and not far off your route. Walkable with lots of little shops, a few places to eat and a small museum.

If you are able to drive a boat Len's Cove Marina in Portland will rent you one and provide a chart of the Big Rideau.

Great thank you. It probably says everything that I have to ask this question, but do you need a licence to drive a boat at Lens Cove? I'd be willing to give it a go (although the rental company may not be so willing to let me!).

Just checked the Transport Canada website. The card is a bit of a joke what with on-line testing by 3rd party companies but it looks like you need one to rent.

There are a couple of folks that run tours out of Portland. Here is one of them:

Rideau Lake Boat Tours Tel: (613) 272 - 2895

Portland Village, Portland, ON

I have my own boat so have never used their services.
