Beaches & things to do in N. Topsail ??

Hi ... we're getting ready to book a home on Porpoise Drive (between Topsail Reef and St. Regis) in N. Topsail. I have a few concerns. Hoping you can help before we pull the trigger. We've been to Carolina Beach, Emerald Isle, OBX, Topsail and have loved all the beaches as well as all there is to do in those areas. I'm concerned about the beaches in N. Topsail after watching a few videos about renourishment, etc. It looks like many areas have very little beach, especially at high tide. We like to hang out on the beach all day with a 10x10 tent and sure don't want to worry about it being swept away with the tide. Also, It doesn't sound like there's much to do in terms of restaurants, bars, entertainment, shopping, etc.

Should we be looking somewhere else, or am I just worrying too much??

Other end of the island, Topsail Beach up to the southern Surf City line or thereabouts. Entirely different.

We love Topsail Island. If being on the beach all day is your goal this is your spot. Topsail is approx. 26 miles long and the beach varies at the different locations. North Topsail has had the most issues with beach erosion/lack of beach at high tide. Your concern about the beach at where you want to rent should be able to answered by who rents the property. We stay at beach front properties at North Topsail/Topsail Drive and Topsail Beach. Just got back from an 8 day October stay and beach was wonderful/beautiful. With the beach nourishment at North Topsail we have found many 30 million year old fossils and had no problems with disappearing beach at high tide.

There are several unique and fun shops. Wilmington is a short drive if you need a larger shopping venues.

Several restaurants have bars attached. I have seen a few bars on the Island, but you are correct there is not much "entertainment" on the Island.

We enjoy the restaurants and have found no lack of good food/meals...our bellys are happy. Sugar Island Bakery is wonderful, we make an order for arrival and visit 3-4 times during our stay and make a Christmas mail order. Kinston also a short drive has two of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at The Chef & the Famer and The Boiler Room.

Good luck with your vacation planning.

Maybe look at Carolina Beach. North end of the beach. Small beach town but still fairly quiet. Look at real estate companies for rentals. Yes, Topsail is very quiet as well. Let us know where you end up going.

We opted out of N. Topsail. Enjoyed Topsail Island when we visited a few years back but found there wasn't much to do. We've been to Carolina Beach a few times. This time we're going to give Surfside Beach in SC a try. Found an OF home with a private pool for a decent price. I hope it's not too crazy busy for us!

Wide beach and lots to do there. Are you going in summer? Busy time. Not terrible, but busy.

We rented a BF home 2 years ago with family. We loved the close proximity to the beach, the beautiful views and quiet. We would go into Surf City for fresh seafood, groceries or restaurants. It was just nice to get away from all the "hassle " and relax. TheTurtle Farm is interesting, the local shops shops were fun and the New York Deli was awesome. You can also go into Wilmington for the day.

For wider beaches, walkable shopping and eateries, stay in Surf City, as opposed to North Topsail Beach. I've been visiting Surf City and Topsail Beach for 20 years, and love the quiet, family atmosphere.

There are sunset dinner tours you can do with the Belle of Topsail. They even have a pirate themed show option if you're into that. You can also rent jet-skis or kayaks. We did a jet ski dolphin tour a couple years ago with http://www.jetskitoday.com/index.html
