Tips for OIB vacation

We're going to Ocean Isle Beach for the first time end of June. We'll have five adults, a 14-year-old and an almost-2. We're renting a condo and will likely eat in a lot. Would like suggestions about grocery shopping as well as things to do.

We have been going to OIB for several years now. We have shopped at a new Lowes Foods just over the bridge. It 's nice and very big with a full deli, and bakery. There is also a Super Walmart in Shallotte, just about 10 minutes inland. On the island itself, there is an ice cream shop, a putt-putt golf, a arcade/pier, beach shop and a new playground. If you are looking for pizza, we order Dominos, it's pretty good, much better than at home and they deliver! We stay at the Ocean Isle Inn, you can see the hotel when driving onto the island, it has the blue roof. Check out their website, they have a lot of photos of the beach and island. Where about are you staying on the island?

Thanks for your speedy response, and all the tips! We're staying in a condo on the west end of the island. Looking forward to it!

If you eat seafood, you must try THE SEAFOOD HUT in Calabash (about 10 minutes from OIB). Most people get the food "to go". Don't let the building's appearance fool you, it is THE BEST.

Thanks for the tip - we have had some of our best seafood from lobster pounds in Maine that we had to carry out, or eat on their picnic tables right outside. We'll try this one, for sure!

We are planning a trip to OIB in July and are looking for fun and affordable things to do with the kids - 11, 10, 8 & 2. Also, we are on the canal and would like information on crabbing and on renting a kayak.

Going tomorrow. Where is a good place to eat in OIB and rent kayacs or a good sports bar to watch football games?

We ate at the Tiki Bar at the Isles Resturant, the ice cream shop, & Cinellis Pizza. The pizza was good, but there was four of us and the bill was $95! We will diff try the Dominos next time. The mini golf is nice. We also ate at Crab Catcher in Little River, Sc. WOW cheap and great seafood! Right off the boats. It is not fancy, but the food is really good. It is about 25 minutes for OIB. If you are doing some cooking stop at Captain Jacks Seaford, 6416 Beach Dr., SW, OIB. Its not far from Lowes food store. We got fresh grouper and put it on the grill. It so fresh!

You must go to Calabash, NC about 10 min from OIB to shop at Callahan's of Calabash. It has a great Christmas shop and tons of other things. The fudge was really good also! We loved OIB and can't wait to go back next summer!

Joey O's on Rt. 179 in Ocean Isle has the best pizza nearby.

Tony's Pizza in Calabash has the best pizza anywhere!!!!

Sheffield's convenience store near the ABC store has a fresh fish counter in the back with fantastic deals on fresh grouper, shrimp, etc.
